What is it?

Astrocartography maps where each planet sat on an angle — the Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant or IC — at the moment you were born, drawn as lines across a world map.

How it's calculated

  1. Convert each graha's position into right ascension and declination.
  2. MC and IC lines are meridians, where the graha culminates or anti-culminates.
  3. AC and DC lines are curves traced latitude by latitude, solving for where the graha sits exactly on the horizon.
  4. Parans are the latitudes at which two lines cross — bands that circle the whole globe.

Why it matters

The lines are computed from real sky positions, so they are identical under sidereal and tropical zodiacs — your ayanamsa does not move them. What Vedic astrology adds is the interpretation: what that planet actually promises in your chart, and when.

Frequently asked questions

Does astrocartography work with Vedic astrology?

The lines themselves are astronomical and identical in both systems. Vedic astrology supplies the interpretation — what the planet promises in your chart, how strong it is, and which dasha is running.

What are parans?

Latitudes where two planets are simultaneously on angles. A paran runs right around the globe, so every place at that latitude shares it regardless of longitude.

Is the Jupiter line always lucky?

No. A Jupiter line amplifies whatever Jupiter actually does in your chart. If Jupiter is weak or rules difficult houses for your ascendant, that is amplified too.

Does my ayanamsa change the lines?

No. Lines derive from right ascension and declination — real positions in the sky — so Lahiri, Raman and tropical all produce identical lines.
