The Biggest Vedic Astrology Transits of 2027: Jupiter Exalted, Saturn in Aries, Five Eclipses and the Full Year-Ahead Timeline
Every few years the sky lines up in a way that even people who never read a horoscope seem to feel. 2027 is one of those years. Jupiter spends the first half of it exalted in Cancer, the single most generous placement the great benefic can hold. Saturn finally leaves Pisces and steps into Aries, reshuffling Sade Sati for a third of the zodiac. Mars reverses course and cools off in its sign of fall. Five eclipses punctuate the calendar, headlined by a total solar eclipse on 2 August that will be talked about for a generation. And Venus, unusually, never turns retrograde all year.
This is your map of the whole year, read through the sidereal (Vedic) sky. We will walk the master timeline date by date, take each major transit in turn and say plainly what it tends to bring, give you a Sankranti table for all twelve solar months, and finish with the single biggest theme each Moon sign can expect. Wherever a transit has its own dedicated guide, we link straight to it, so this page is a hub you can keep coming back to.
The bright spot: Jupiter is exalted in Cancer from 24 January to 25 June 2027, the most auspicious window of the year for growth, study, children and new beginnings.
The big restructure: Saturn enters Aries, its sign of debilitation, on 2 June 2027, moving the Sade Sati cycle on for the Pisces, Aries, Taurus and Aquarius Moon signs.
The slow-down: Mars is retrograde from 10 January to 1 April 2027, backing from Leo into Cancer, its sign of debilitation, early in the year.
The headline sky event: a total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027 in sidereal Cancer, at 15°40′ in Pushya nakshatra, with one of the longest totalities of the century.
The steady ones: Rahu and Ketu sit in Capricorn and Cancer all year, Mercury turns retrograde three times, and Venus has no retrograde at all in 2027.
The shape of the year
If 2026 was about Saturn and the lunar nodes settling into new ground, 2027 is a year of two very different halves held together by a handful of turning points.
The first half belongs to Jupiter. For five months the greatest benefic sits exalted in Cancer, and the mood of early 2027 is expansive: good news arrives, doors that were stuck begin to move, and anything to do with learning, family, property and children carries a tailwind. Mars retrograde adds a note of caution to January through March, asking you to slow down and not force things, but the overall current is rising.
The hinge of the year is June. Within a few weeks Jupiter leaves Cancer for Leo and Saturn leaves Pisces for Aries. That one-two change shifts the emotional weather for almost everybody. The second half is more about consolidation, responsibility and earning your results the patient way, with the dramatic eclipse season of July and August right in the middle of it.
None of this is fate in the fatalistic sense. Vedic astrology reads transits (gochara) as tendencies and timing, the weather rather than the verdict. What you do with the weather is still yours. The point of knowing the forecast is simply to plant when the ground is warm and shelter when the storm passes through.
In the broadest terms, you can read the year in four movements. The first quarter is cautious but hopeful: Mars retrograde says slow down, while Jupiter settles into its exaltation and quietly lifts everything. The second quarter is the most fortunate, with exalted Jupiter at full strength and the sky inviting commitment. The third quarter is the turning point and the most intense stretch, as Saturn changes signs and the summer eclipses arrive. The fourth quarter asks for consolidation, with Jupiter shifting to Virgo, Saturn finishing its retrograde back in Pisces, and the year winding toward a disciplined close.

Jupiter exalted in Cancer: the year's great blessing
Jupiter, called Guru or Brihaspati, is the planet of wisdom, expansion, faith, teachers, children, wealth and good fortune. It is the natural benefic that the whole chart leans on. And Cancer (Karka) is the sign where Jupiter is exalted (uccha), performing at its warmest and most protective, with its deepest exaltation at 5° Cancer.
Jupiter begins 2027 in Leo, but it is retrograde, and on 24 January 2027 it slips back into Cancer. From then until 25 June 2027 the greatest benefic sits in its sign of exaltation. This five-month stretch is, quite simply, the most auspicious window of the entire year.
Exalted Jupiter in Cancer favours anything you want to grow: a family, a course of study, a home, a business, a spiritual practice. It is the sky's green light for beginnings that you intend to nurture over time.
Jupiter stations direct on 13 April 2027 at 22°45′ Cancer, and from that point its forward motion gives the window its strongest, clearest expression. The weeks around the direct station are an especially good time to commit to the plans you have been weighing since the new year.
Cancer is a water sign, ruled by the Moon, and it is all about the home, the mother, emotional security and nourishment. Jupiter here blesses those areas first. Expect family matters to ease, property and real estate to favour the patient buyer, and matters around children, from conception to education, to carry unusual grace. Teachers, mentors and advisers become easier to find, and your own instinct to guide and protect others grows.
Because Jupiter was already touring Leo in 2026, you may have read about Jupiter's effects sign by sign in our guide to Jupiter in Leo 2026 for all signs. The 2027 return to Cancer is the richer, more fortunate half of that journey, so it is worth revisiting which house Cancer falls in for your own chart.
Jupiter re-enters Leo on 25–26 June 2027 and then moves on to Virgo on 26 November 2027. In Virgo, ruled by Mercury, Jupiter is in a sign it finds less comfortable, so the easy expansiveness of the first half naturally gives way to a more detailed, practical, work-focused flavour as the year closes.
Mars retrograde: the early-year slow-down
Mars, called Mangala or Kuja, is the planet of energy, courage, drive, competition, machinery, property and sheer willpower. When it runs forward it pushes us to act. When it turns retrograde, that drive turns inward and often stalls.
Mars turns retrograde on 10 January 2027 at 16°11′ Leo and does not station direct until 1 April 2027 at 26°41′ Cancer. Over those eleven weeks it backs out of Leo and into Cancer, which is Mars's sign of debilitation (neecha). A fiery, action-loving planet moving backward into the sign where it is weakest is the sky asking you, firmly, to slow down.
This is not a window for picking fights, forcing confrontations, launching aggressive campaigns or starting anything that needs raw momentum to succeed. Tempers run short and then fizzle; energy that feels urgent one week looks misguided the next. Machinery, vehicles and anything mechanical deserve extra care and maintenance rather than hard use.
It is, however, an excellent window for the quieter side of Mars: finishing what you already started, training and conditioning, strategy and planning, and dealing patiently with property or land matters that need review rather than a sudden move. Think of it as a time to sharpen the blade, not swing it.
Notice how neatly Mars cools off just as Jupiter warms up. From late January, debilitated Mars in Cancer actually sits in the same sign as exalted Jupiter for a stretch, so the aggression is contained and the wisdom is elevated. The early year rewards gentleness and planning far more than force.
Saturn enters Aries and the Sade Sati reshuffle
The single biggest structural change of 2027 comes on 2 June, when Saturn (Shani) leaves Pisces and enters Aries. Saturn is the planet of time, discipline, karma, duty and consequences, and it moves slowly, spending about two and a half years in each sign. Where it sits, it audits: it checks whether the structures in your life can carry weight, rewarding what is solid and asking you to rebuild what is not.
Aries (Mesha) is ruled by Mars and runs on speed, fire and initiative. Saturn runs on patience. The two temperaments clash, which is why Saturn is debilitated in Aries, with its deepest fall at 20° Aries. Debilitated does not mean broken. It means Saturn's rewards arrive through friction: you build the hard way, often alone or against resistance, and what you build is genuinely your own.
Saturn's move is not a clean one-way street in 2027. It enters Aries on 2 June, turns retrograde on 9 August at 3°38′ Aries, backs into Pisces on 20 October, and finally stations direct on 24 December at 26°46′ Pisces. So the year gives most people a first taste of the new Saturn placement, then hands back a few more months of the old one before the real chapter begins in 2028.
This movement reshuffles Sade Sati, the famous seven-and-a-half-year Saturn cycle that runs when Saturn transits the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from your natal Moon.
- Aries (Mesha) Moon moves into the peak of Sade Sati as Saturn crosses the Moon sign itself.
- Taurus (Vrishabha) Moon begins Sade Sati, with Saturn in the 12th.
- Pisces (Meena) Moon moves toward the final phase, though Saturn's return to Pisces keeps them in it until early 2028.
- Aquarius (Kumbha) Moon starts to be released, finally stepping clear once Saturn settles in Aries in 2028.
At the same time, Leo and Sagittarius Moons are let go from the Dhaiya (the smaller two-and-a-half-year Saturn pressure) they carried while Saturn was in Pisces, while Capricorn and Virgo Moons pick up new Dhaiya periods. The full sign-by-sign breakdown, including every verified date out to 2030, is in our dedicated guide to Saturn in Aries 2027 and Sade Sati for all Moon signs.
Whichever side of the shift you are on, the message of Saturn in 2027 is the same: get serious, keep your commitments, do the unglamorous work, and let results compound. People who already work steadily tend to describe their Saturn years as the time they finally got real about something. People who lean on shortcuts tend to remember them as the time the shortcuts stopped working.
If you want to know precisely which phase you are entering and when, the Sade Sati calculator will give you the dates for your own Moon sign in a moment.
Rahu and Ketu in Capricorn and Cancer
The lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu, are the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's, and in Vedic astrology they act as powerful shadow planets. Rahu is the hungry, outward, worldly node, forever reaching for more. Ketu is the detached, inward, spiritual node, forever letting go. They always sit exactly opposite each other and move backward through the zodiac.
Throughout all of 2027 Rahu is in Capricorn (Makara) and Ketu is in Cancer (Karka). They entered this axis on 5–6 December 2026 and stay until June 2028, so 2027 is the heart of their journey here. We covered the turn in detail in our guide to the Rahu-Ketu shift of December 2026, and it remains the backdrop against which the faster transits play out.
Rahu in Capricorn pushes ambition, career, status, discipline and worldly structure. It can make people hungry for professional advancement and willing to work relentlessly for it, sometimes at the cost of rest and relationships. Ketu in Cancer loosens attachment to home, mother, roots and emotional security, which can feel like restlessness at home or a quiet pull to need less of it.
This axis matters enormously in 2027 because so much else lands on it. The annular solar eclipse of February falls in Capricorn with Rahu. Both July eclipses touch the Capricorn end. And the great total solar eclipse of August falls in Cancer, right where Ketu sits. When the nodes meet the luminaries, their themes of ambition and release are pushed to the front of the year.
The five eclipses of 2027
2027 carries five eclipses, two solar and three lunar. In Vedic astrology, eclipses (grahana) are the nodes swallowing the light of the Sun or Moon for a short time, and they are read as intensity points, moments when something is revealed, released or reset. They are best treated calmly. The old advice to pause rather than start, to rest and reflect rather than push, and to keep important launches and signings off the eclipse itself, is practical wisdom rather than fear. Nothing about an eclipse is a sentence; it is a strong current you can simply choose to float through.
| Date | Eclipse | Sidereal sign |
|---|---|---|
| 6 February 2027 | Annular solar | Capricorn (~23°), with Rahu |
| 20–21 February 2027 | Penumbral lunar | Leo |
| 17–18 July 2027 | Penumbral lunar | Capricorn |
| 2 August 2027 | Total solar | Cancer (15°40′, Pushya) |
| 17 August 2027 | Penumbral lunar | Late Capricorn / Aquarius |
The February pair
The year's eclipse season opens with an annular solar eclipse on 6 February 2027 in Capricorn, close to Rahu at about 23°. An annular eclipse is the "ring of fire" type, where the Moon is too far from Earth to cover the Sun completely. Falling on the Rahu-Capricorn point, it tends to spotlight ambition, career and the structures we build our status on. It is followed two weeks later by a penumbral lunar eclipse in Leo on 20–21 February, a gentler, subtler event that touches the heart, creativity and matters of pride and recognition.
The July and August cluster
The second season is busier. A penumbral lunar eclipse falls in Capricorn on 17–18 July 2027, again stirring the Rahu end of the nodal axis and the career themes it governs. Then comes the event of the year.
The total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 falls in sidereal Cancer at 15°40′, in Pushya nakshatra, right on Ketu. This is one of the longest total solar eclipses of the century, with the Moon's shadow crossing North Africa and the Middle East, and a partial eclipse visible across India and the UAE. Because it lands in Cancer on Ketu, its themes are deeply about home, roots, emotional security and letting go of what we have outgrown, while Pushya, the most nourishing of the nakshatras, lends it an undertone of care and renewal. It deserves a guide of its own, and it has one: read the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 in Vedic astrology for who feels it most and how to work with it.
The season closes with a third penumbral lunar eclipse on 17 August 2027 in late Capricorn moving into Aquarius, rounding off a period where the nodal axis is lit up again and again. Cancer and Capricorn Moon and rising signs, along with Leo and Aquarius, feel these eclipses most directly, but everyone can use the eclipse weeks the same way: slow down, tie off loose ends, and let the year reset you rather than rushing to fill the space.
Three Mercury retrogrades, and a clean year for Venus
Mercury, called Budha, governs the mind, speech, commerce, contracts, travel and communication. It is the fastest of the planets, and three times a year or so it appears to move backward, which is when the famous Mercury retrograde advice kicks in: back up your work, read the fine print, confirm the arrangements, and expect messages and journeys to need a second pass.
In 2027 Mercury turns retrograde three times:
| Window | Signs |
|---|---|
| 9 February – 3 March 2027 | Aquarius back into Capricorn |
| 10 June – 4 July 2027 | Gemini |
| 7 – 28 October 2027 | Libra back into Virgo |
None of these is cause for alarm. Mercury retrograde is routine, and it has a useful side: the prefix "re" is the clue. It is a good time to revise, review, reconnect, renegotiate and finish half-done work, and a less ideal time to sign brand-new contracts, buy expensive electronics, or launch something that depends on crisp, first-time communication. The February window overlaps the first eclipse, so that stretch especially rewards patience over haste.
There is one genuinely welcome absence in 2027. Venus (Shukra), the planet of love, beauty, pleasure, art, marriage and comfort, does not turn retrograde at all this year. Its next retrograde is in 2028. That makes 2027 a notably clean year for Venus matters: relationships, weddings, creative work, luxury purchases and anything to do with harmony and partnership run without the retrograde complication that can otherwise cloud them. If you have been waiting for a steady sky to formalise a relationship or commit to a creative project, the forward motion of Venus all year is a quiet gift. Venus itself came out of its last retrograde late in 2026, a turn we covered in our guide to Venus going direct in November 2026 for all signs, so 2027 opens with Venus already clear and strong.
The twelve Sankrantis: Sun ingress month by month
A Sankranti (Sankranti means "crossing") is the moment the Sun enters a new sidereal sign. There are twelve in the year, and they mark the Vedic solar months. The Sun spends about a month in each sign, and these ingresses are important markers for festivals, for the harvest cycle and for timing in muhurta (electional astrology). Makar Sankranti, the Sun's entry into Capricorn, is the most widely celebrated of all.
| Date | Sun enters (sidereal) | Solar month |
|---|---|---|
| 14 January 2027 | Capricorn (Makara) | Makar Sankranti |
| 13 February 2027 | Aquarius (Kumbha) | Kumbha Sankranti |
| 15 March 2027 | Pisces (Meena) | Meena Sankranti |
| 14 April 2027 | Aries (Mesha) | Mesha Sankranti (solar new year) |
| 15 May 2027 | Taurus (Vrishabha) | Vrishabha Sankranti |
| 15 June 2027 | Gemini (Mithuna) | Mithuna Sankranti |
| 17 July 2027 | Cancer (Karka) | Karka Sankranti |
| 17 August 2027 | Leo (Simha) | Simha Sankranti |
| 17 September 2027 | Virgo (Kanya) | Kanya Sankranti |
| 18 October 2027 | Libra (Tula) | Tula Sankranti |
| 17 November 2027 | Scorpio (Vrishchika) | Vrishchika Sankranti |
| 16 December 2027 | Sagittarius (Dhanu) | Dhanu Sankranti |
Makar Sankranti on 14 January 2027 opens the year and marks the Sun's turn toward the north (Uttarayana), traditionally the most auspicious half of the year for new undertakings. We have a full guide to Makar Sankranti 2027 and the Sun in Capricorn, including what the Sun's entry means for each sign and how it interacts with Rahu, which shares Capricorn this year.
The single biggest theme for each Moon sign
The transits above fall differently on each of us depending on where they land in our chart. Vedic astrology reads most transit effects from the Moon sign (Chandra rashi), the sidereal sign the Moon occupied at your birth, because the Moon represents the mind. If you also know your rising sign (Lagna), read for that too, and give the stronger of the two more weight.
Here is the one headline each Moon sign can hold onto for 2027. It is a summary, not the whole story, and the deeper sign-by-sign forecast lives in our 2027 predictions for all twelve Moon signs.
| Moon sign | Biggest theme of 2027 |
|---|---|
| Aries (Mesha) | Saturn crosses your sign from June, bringing the peak of Sade Sati: a serious new chapter of responsibility and self-rebuilding, earned patiently. |
| Taurus (Vrishabha) | Saturn enters your 12th from June and Sade Sati begins: a time to wind down an old cycle, cut quiet expenses, rest and turn inward before the next climb. |
| Gemini (Mithuna) | Saturn reaches your favourable 11th from June, so patient effort turns into gains and stronger networks; your ruler Mercury's three retrogrades reward reviewing over rushing. |
| Cancer (Karka) | Your pivotal year: exalted Jupiter blesses your own sign until June, while Ketu and the great August eclipse in Cancer ask you to release what you have outgrown. |
| Leo (Simha) | Mars retrograde in your sign recalibrates your energy and direction early on; Jupiter returns to Leo mid-year, and the February lunar eclipse touches your heart and pride. |
| Virgo (Kanya) | Saturn in your 8th from June (Ashtama Shani) asks for depth, discipline and care with health and shared resources; Jupiter enters your sign in November to lift the close of the year. |
| Libra (Tula) | Saturn reaches your 7th from June, putting partnerships and commitments under honest review; what is solid is strengthened, what is not is renegotiated. |
| Scorpio (Vrishchika) | Saturn moves to your favourable 6th from June: a strong year for overcoming obstacles, debts, competition and health challenges through steady work. |
| Sagittarius (Dhanu) | Released from Saturn's Dhaiya, you breathe easier; Saturn in your 5th from June puts a patient, maturing focus on creativity, children and investments. |
| Capricorn (Makara) | Rahu in your sign and Saturn entering your 4th from June stir identity, home and ambition; two eclipses in Capricorn make this a year of restless reinvention. |
| Aquarius (Kumbha) | Sade Sati winds down and Saturn reaches your favourable 3rd from June: courage, initiative and your own effort finally start paying off. |
| Pisces (Meena) | You close the long final phase of Sade Sati, with Saturn stationing direct in your sign in December: a year of consolidation and quiet, hard-won maturity. |
If you are not sure of your Moon sign, the nakshatra and Moon sign calculator will give it to you from your birth details, and a full chart will show you exactly which houses these transits activate.
How to use the year
A forecast is only as good as what you do with it. Here is how to work with 2027's weather rather than against it.
Plant in the first half
From late January to late June, exalted Jupiter in Cancer gives the year its warmest soil. If you want to start a family, begin a serious course of study, buy or build a home, launch a venture you intend to nurture slowly, or deepen a spiritual practice, the first half of the year is the time to plant. The weeks around Jupiter's direct station on 13 April 2027 are especially favourable for committing.
Slow down when the sky tells you to
Mars retrograde from January to April and the three Mercury retrogrades are built-in brakes. Treat them as review periods: finish, revise, maintain, renegotiate and plan, rather than launch and confront. Keep major signings and launches off the eclipse dates themselves, and off the heart of a Mercury retrograde where you can.
Restructure from June
When Saturn changes signs on 2 June, the second half of the year turns toward responsibility and long-term building. This is the time to put systems in place, honour commitments, simplify what has grown unwieldy, and accept that the best results now are the ones you earn the patient way. If you are moving into Sade Sati, lean into routine, service and discipline rather than dreading it.
Let the eclipses reset you
The February pair and the July–August cluster are natural pause points. Use the eclipse weeks to rest, reflect, close loose ends and notice what you are ready to release. Charity (daana), service and time with family sit well on these days. There is no need to fear them; they are simply strong tides, and you get to decide how you meet them.
Read it against your own chart
Everything here is the general sky. The real detail of your year lives at the meeting point of these transits and your own birth chart and running dasha. The same Saturn transit that pressures one person gives another a promotion, depending on the houses involved and the period they are running. Cast your chart on the free Vedic chart tool and you can watch Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and the eclipses move through your own houses all year. For the timing layer, our guide to Gochara and advanced transit analysis shows how transits and dashas combine to actually fire an event.
Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest astrological transit of 2027?
The two biggest are Jupiter exalted in Cancer from 24 January to 25 June 2027, the most auspicious window of the year, and Saturn entering Aries on 2 June 2027, which reshuffles the Sade Sati cycle. The single most dramatic sky event is the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027.
When is Jupiter exalted in Cancer in 2027?
Jupiter retrogrades back into Cancer, its sign of exaltation, on 24 January 2027 and stays there until it re-enters Leo on 25 June 2027. It stations direct at 22°45′ Cancer on 13 April 2027, giving the window its strongest expression.
When does Saturn enter Aries in 2027?
Saturn enters sidereal Aries, its sign of debilitation, on 2 June 2027. It turns retrograde on 9 August, backs into Pisces on 20 October, and stations direct in Pisces on 24 December 2027 before returning to Aries for the long haul in 2028.
When is Mars retrograde in 2027?
Mars is retrograde from 10 January 2027 in Leo until it turns direct on 1 April 2027 in Cancer. Because it backs into Cancer, its sign of debilitation, this is a time to slow down, plan and avoid forcing confrontations rather than launch anything aggressive.
How many eclipses are there in 2027?
There are five eclipses in 2027: an annular solar eclipse on 6 February in Capricorn, penumbral lunar eclipses on 20–21 February in Leo, 17–18 July in Capricorn and 17 August in late Capricorn, and a total solar eclipse on 2 August in Cancer.
Why is the 2 August 2027 solar eclipse so significant?
It is a total solar eclipse in sidereal Cancer at 15°40′, in Pushya nakshatra, and sits on Ketu. It has one of the longest totalities of the century, with the shadow crossing North Africa and the Middle East and a partial eclipse visible over India and the UAE.
When is Mercury retrograde in 2027?
Mercury turns retrograde three times in 2027: 9 February to 3 March in Aquarius and Capricorn, 10 June to 4 July in Gemini, and 7 to 28 October in Libra and Virgo. These are good windows to revise and reconnect rather than start brand-new agreements.
Is Venus retrograde in 2027?
No. Venus does not turn retrograde at all in 2027; its next retrograde is in 2028. That makes 2027 a notably clean year for relationships, weddings, creative work and anything ruled by Venus.
Which signs are most affected in 2027?
Cancer and Capricorn feel the most, because Jupiter, Ketu and the August eclipse land in Cancer while Rahu and several eclipses land in Capricorn. Aries, Taurus, Pisces and Aquarius feel the Saturn and Sade Sati shift most strongly from June onward.
Should I read these transits for my Sun sign or Moon sign?
Read them for your Moon sign (Chandra rashi) first, because Vedic astrology judges most transits from the Moon. If you know your rising sign (Lagna), read for that too, and give the stronger of the two more weight. A full birth chart shows which houses each transit activates.
